Due to most browsers ignoring how video embedding should have been implemented, all videos in a thread were being fully loaded rather than just the first frame. Because of that, I had to make all our videos show a default thumbnail. Fixing this will take time, and it is something unfortunately I'll only be able to do in the future. You can use this global thread to talk about anything you want.

With the ads fixed, the user counter went from 30 average to 80, sometimes with 120 people in here. Half of the server costs are going to be paid on average now at the end of the month, and that is enough to dissuade me from temporarily shutting us down, given we even have more lurkers right now than a few months ago. Situation before felt hopeless, and now there is even the hope of continuing our growth to some stable level. But, I still most likely won't be able to code Enrive during this year, and if posting and lurking doesn't increase I will again reconsider shutting us down and only bring Enrive back once it is fully coded. I know it lacks in features before anyone could just drop other chans and move in here full time, but that never stopped this place from having a pretty active and eventful community with lots of creativity, from the people who felt like this was their home on the internet and were excited about it. So, if you still believe in an uncucked place, please continue helping advertise Enrive. At least one person said on the last global that he did so, and that is probably what was responsible for giving us the extra lurkers. Getting more people in here, posters especially, is important so we can reach enough momentum to at least have a few daily posts and give us that sense of community that we once had again.

>>26115 >explain better It's gone again now. The red line indicates the row at which everything (name, date, et cetera) was turned into a link to https://enrive.org/b/thread/234338#234495 . This was only true for the latest post. You were probably messing about with the CSS.

I might take Enrive down temporarily, for some months to a year if interest in it remains this low. Since 2016, there were enough lurkers that the server costs were paying for itself with ads. So even if posting was low or we had no activity, I lost nothing by keeping us online. But at this moment, there are very few people browsing the site compared to what it used to be during 2014-2017 and ads only pay for 1/3 of the costs. It has gotten expensive to continue keeping us up when we have almost no posters, and when I have become so busy with my other business that I don't think I'll be able to code Enrive for a while. While I'll miss this place, there is no justification to keep it online if people are not interested in it, and it would be a better strategy to take it offline and only bring it back online in the future when I have finished coding it, or have more spare time and money to invest in it. If you like Enrive and want to support it and would prefer to keep it online, then help make the site grow at least a little. Doubling our Online Users to an 80 average should be enough that at least it is not a monetary burden on me any longer. I know that at least one person seems to be banned from every forum out there and Enrive is his only outlet, but due to the costs I may not be able to keep us up just for 1 or 2 people posting. Not with the world in the current monetary crisis it is. If I take us offline I will do so in 2 to 3 months. Enough time to mature the idea and I don't think I want to expend more money than that when I have been doing so for a year now. And just to be clear, it's not about the money, it is about the money + little interest on the website. The money I can save for not hosting us for a year may be much better spend re-hosting us in the future when the site is fully developed and where I can also put the time to work further on it.

>>26029 >Secretly stealing user data shouldn't be the norm, and this site should certainly be better than that. I really disagree with you on this point. To call it secretly stealing user data is really blowing out of proportion. The only thing the ad service and people who pay for the ads can know is that your IP visited enrive.org and nothing more than that, and if that is something that concerns you you should/can use a proxy. Otherwise, you'd have to recommend me a different strategy that actually works. Users paying for an Enrive pass like 4chan? Not possible as that is really a privacy breaker, also, you already get to skip captcha for free in here anyway so there wouldn't even be a point. Patreon? Tried in the past, got banned. By having ads in the non intrusive format I managed to implement them allows us to have resources to grow or at least pay for our costs, it is a smart move. Reddit is a text only board, no bandwidth spent for images, and they don't make a profit - they rely on investors who keep it online, most likely due to their ability to control the narrative or controlling advertisement in there. The reality is that for us to grow I need to have some financial plan, otherwise it can only grow as far as I can the means to put my on money into it. >Yaay! I get to keep my gigantic personal-blog. :P lol

Was on vacations taking a break, but now I'm back. Before messing with more code, I want to fix the mobile layout (the content is displayed at only half of the screen size), and also give some basic board filtering and board discovery features to the front page. I am awful at CSS, so if anyone can pinpoint the solution by looking at the CSS+markup let me know.

>>25919 I don't think you even understand the meaning of "secret" there (but then again, you think the size of people's noses is some kind of indication of evil, so that's to be expected). It's a pretty retarded things to have, though: You can't tell users about this secret, because then it wouldn't be secret, but you can't keep it a secret, because then nobody would come there. ...except the secret was leaked anyway, to the point where it was the second search result on Google for a while. It was such a retarded idea that no wonder that YOU would want it back.

It is time for a new /b/admin. We've had a few of them in the past. Some doxxed themselves and I let them go, some just didn't work out, and I'm not sure what happened to the very last one. If the discord admin is someone who enjoys something like 4chan's old /b/, I would give the board to him, since he seems like someone that cares and puts work into things, given what he did with our discord. If he is not interested, I will give it to a random pun anon and let's hope he does a good job. And if there are people who strongly want to /b/admin even if discord admin wants as well, I can do some sort of lottery to see who wins. What I can't do right now is have multiple mods for /b/ at this moment, it would not work well due to a lack of mod audit tool. In the past, I kinda tried letting badmins sort their own rules, and just asked to try and make something that rewards creativity, but I felt the rules were always messy and not objective. So this time I'm handing down the rules I feel work well with an official /b/ board, and ask that the admin respects it: >1) On topic threads are for creative content. Someone saying something that wasn't said before, someone asking users to post cows on fish chan, people making their own variations of some image. Anything that is creative or inspires people to be creative. As philosoraptor says, it can't be called random if it is always the same threads and reposts. >2) Anything else is off topic. Political discussions, talking about people (especially if in romantic or sexual manner), waifus, personal blog posts, requests. This is to ensure we never end like 4chan's /b/, which was once the main board now has become a boring place for posting porn.

>Since only one person has shown interest in /b/admin this time around, and not decisively, I will attempt moderating myself for a while and hopefully it work out well and we can keep its system for the future. Soon I'll start sorting out threads I think that's a good idea, since you have an idea of how you want to profile this site, and what your style of "creativity" is, and it pretty much comes down to how you choose to moderate /b/. At least for a while, you need to set examples on how to moderate.

So, what is next in development? >The same way I improved the site code, I want to improve the database code (the software that actually stores posts, user accounts and so on). It is a very small task in comparison to the time it took me changing the site code, but I want to read a few programming books so give me 2 months at most to get this done, as real life obligations sometimes take a lot of my time. If not, I may get it done in some 2 to 3 weeks. >After that, I think the next step is to invest into board owner tools. We need to have a sense of community to grow, and if board owners cannot properly manage their boards that gets in the way of that. They need to be able to add moderators, moderate the moderators, and so on. >Next, I need to add a proper moderation system where global mods are publicly accountable for what they do, and so unfairly banned users or posts can be restored as if nothing happened. >Then, we need to improve the visuals of what we already have, some areas of the site are very raw, and I need to bring back things that were already working (filtering the frontpage, auto update, donating posts) What do you think? Also, if someone wants to create a discord server for us, I will add its link to the header.

I have added the link to our discord. You can click on the top right corner, or here https://discord.gg/EZDZUGP Discord is not anonymous, nor a place for political discussion (any sort of hate speech, which passes for everything nowadays, will get you banned from it, along with the user who created the server. So whoever our discord admin is, you'll have to deal with their strong terms of service if you want the room to stay alive). It is just for us to have fun and meme with one another, and create a bigger sense of community to help us grow. Real life has prevented me from coding again, but I should get back to it next week. Closing this global thread for now. Please join the discord or Kmar will fire me if I don't meet my quota.
